Military Wives shoot for the number one spot.

It has been revealed that Military Wives and Gareth Malone’s Wherever You Are has become record-breaking as the most pre-ordered music item ever on Amazon ahead of its official release by Decca on December 18.

It looks like X Factor winners Little Mix’s chances of hitting the topspot are getting slimmer by the day as phenomenal pre-order figures have been reported for the Military Wives single.
Amazon UK’s music manager, Roger Greensmith, revealed: “Pre-orders for the single have been so strong they have outstripped those achieved by Take That’s 2010 album Progress almost three times over.”
“This is a tremendous achievement when you consider that Take That’s album marked Robbie’s return and was one of the most highly anticipated music releases ever. With a week of pre-orders still to go, this puts the Military Wives choir in a great position to be Christmas number one.”

Facebook adds Google+ features

Facebook has tided up the comment bar for status updates, now you can
add friends and locations or check in right from the comment bar, also
they have added a very Google + feature of posting your comments to
different feeds, so you can post to public different information that
you would post to friends or you can make a custom feed to post to.

Facebook is always very quick to strip features it likes from other
developers and integrate them into it's own product, it's hard to see
how others will compete as they have the users and can update the
service so quickly.

We want Nokia to keep MeeGo

Sign the Twitition to get MeeGo back !

This Twitition after the post of Interlingua_TV on the Nokia Conversations forum: http://conversations.nokia.com/2011/06/21/video-diving-into-the-nokia-n9-ui-and-specs/#comment-230866683 "This is the most beautiful phone OS ever: Meego simply rocks! Having this phone N9 with so many features, Maps offline, Maps 3D, all the messages, SMS, social updates in one page, Carl Zeiss AF 2.2f, HD Stereo video recording, NFC, USB, 1 Ghz processor, 1 Gb RAM, 16/64 Gb storage, how can Elop say MeeGo is just a disruption and he wants to abandon this beauty for WP7 when WP7 does not sell, with all the free Xbox console, tons of advertisement and OEMs like Samsung, LG and HTC??? Elop made Nokia to jump in icy water on Feb 11, having this beauty in the pocket? 20 billions lost in market capitalization, NOK stock is lowest in 13 years, 16 billions lost in smartphone sales as a result of Elop Feb 11 speech? When he killed MeeGo and Symbian and Ovi, Nokia own kids, like a saboteur, to only embrace WP7 from his former company? How he could kill MeeGo? MeeGo looks to be the best phone OS ever!Nokia, please don't take the troll or trojan advice and this to be the single and last MeeGo device released!Nokia, you need to fight, you are under US/M$ occupation now, but make your point: MeeGo needs to survive! Qt needs to survive. They are the future, people don't want a closed platforms like iOS and WP, they want openness and liberty! They don't want Microsoft Bing advertisement everywhere on Maps, email, all the data tracked to serve advertisement. People want privacy and openness and freedom! People want open source driven by free minds, not corporations like M$ to drive and track their actions!" You agree? Sign! Share!

Security flaw affected 99.7% of all Android smartphones

Google is in the process of updating its Android operating system to fix an issue that is believed to have left millions of smartphones and tablets vulnerable to personal data leaks."We recently started rolling out a fix which addresses a potential security flaw that could, under certain circumstances, allow a third party access to data available in calendar and contacts," a Google spokesman said in a statement.

Thunderbolt: Introducing a new way to hack Macs

Apple and Intel have introduced a new notebook connection technology called Thunderbolt that will hopefully replace all the other cables coming out of your laptop. However, it appears to share the same security flaw as some of these older technologies: attaching a hostile device can break into your computer. A hacker can walk up to your laptop while you are not looking, connect a device for a few seconds, disconnect it and walk away with your data (such as passwords). This works even when your laptop is "locked" with the password screen. We can't prove this until we get our hands on the hardware, but all signs point to hackers being able to exploit Thunderbolt.

Imagine that you are at a conference. You innocently attach your DisplayPort to a projector to show your presentation on the big screen. Unknown to you, while giving your presentation, the projector is downloading the entire contents of your hard disk.

I'm now rocking GingerBread

After I got an Over The Air notification to say 2.3.3 was available for my Google Nexus One, I decided to take the opportunity to change my gmail email address from googlemail.com to gmail.com.
When I did this some months ago now it broke some of my apps on my Nexus one due to sign in details that could not be changed, the only option to me was to wipe the phone and start again.

So this is what I did, restored factory defaults on the phone then change my gmail.com details, then set the freshly wiped phone with the new google details.

Then i wanted to download gingerbread via the OTA update but the notification had disappeared from the phone.

I then looked to see if there was a way of forcing the update or manually installing.
I came across the code to force the phone to check *#*#2432546#*#* (*#*#checkin#*#*) which i put into the phone dialler, got a msg back checkin successful , but still nothing.

I then found a site detailing instructions on downloading the gingerbread update then putting on the MicroSD card and then rebooting the phone in a loader mode.
I cant find the original site but this link details what i did. androidcentral.com

Found more details on the Google Mobile Help Forum some report google voice can break on the Nexus One, cant get this in the UK so im not bothered about this.

iPad 2 just saying. :)

https goes live for uk facebook

Further to previous post here fb have now rolled out https for the UK, get on it peeps !
you can find it in your account settings. :- account / account settings / account security / secure browsing https .

Thursday

Facebook adds https://

At last, now facebook can be viewed securely by using https.

Why should you care ? well you should, https gives you an encrypted (secure) connection to a site you are using / viewing. https uses ssl encryption directly between your web browser and the web server you are looking at.

Like doing online banking your connection is secure and your data and information you supply to the site is secure.

https should always be used in a public hot spot environment, as your data you are sending over the air via wifi is vulnerable, with the introduction of the FireSheep utility, this brings to the fore how insecure you potentially are.

You just need to change a setting in your account security setting in your facebook profile. At time of posting this option was not available in my UK based facebook account, I could log in via https:// but was pushed back to plain old http:// no its not fully rolled out globally yet.

Sunday

Happy New Year ! from PlanetCypher to all our readership

Well its that time again the start of the year, what have we got in-store for this year to come we wonder ?

Well here are a few thoughts and predictions for the year ahead.

1. Don't forget CES held annually in the US, so we will see what the manufactures have in-store for us by the end of 2011 into 2012

2. 3D Tv ? I don't think this really is the year for 3D to go main, main stream, having said that alot of 3D capable sets will be sold just by virtue of the 3D features being included.

3. NFC enabled handsets. Google has the NFC reader in the new Nexus S, will apple follow suit ? there was talk of apple's next iPhone or poss an iOS devise having NFC included.

4. iPhone 4 CDMA Not sure if this is official or not.

5. iPadV2 I hope there will be front face camera, almost defiantly a rear face camera, reports of a smaller bezzle but i hope the screen size stays the same, i don't like the smaller 7" android powered Tab form factor.

6. Defiantly the year of the tablet, Microsoft tablet ? defiantly a windows powered devise with ubuntu already announced, expect a glut of android devises, maybe an official google tablet?

7. 1080p projectors, its about time the prices starting dropping.

8. Apps, With an explosion of Android handsets on the market expect the android app store to massively grow, apple is so happy with its app store they're going to incorperate it into there next version of OS X Lion

9. Google Tv ? Don't think so, google has already scaled back this product much to dismay of its business partners who must have been gearing up for a push of the product this year.

10. Here in the UK we have the 2012 Olympics so expect alot of data centric devices and services this coming year to emerge, talk of networks on the tube and channel tunnel, weather these are WiFi data services WiMax, LTE (collectively now know as 4G) or just mobile (cell) phone coverage. I would imagine a data backbone with some sort of mini cell technology.

11. Femto Cells, Vodafone have one but that's about it so far, high time for networks to alow this type of connection and some rev share would be nice for open public use ? although i can see this happening as the networks have to offer a certain level of service, which i couldn't to if privately owned femto cells are open publicly.

12. ev Electric Vehicle's or electric cars if you will. The nissan Leaf in the UK is the first mass produced ev designed from the ground up to be sold in the UK, I'm sure more manufacturers will release ev's later in the year.
